How to Install Cabinet Handles Without a Template

Installing cabinet handles is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few minutes. However, if you don't have a template, it can be easy to make mistakes, such as drilling the holes too close together or too far apart. By following these simple steps, you can ensure that your cabinet handles are installed correctly and look their best.

Materials you'll need:

  • Cabinet handles
  • Drill
  • Drill bit (the same diameter as the screw that came with the handles)
  • Screwdriver
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Pencil

Instructions:

  1. Measure and mark the center of the cabinet door. This is the point where the handle will be installed. Use a measuring tape or ruler to find the center of the door, both horizontally and vertically. Mark the center point with a pencil.
  2. Drill a pilot hole. Use a drill bit that is the same diameter as the screw that came with the handles. Drill a pilot hole at the center point that you marked in step 1.
  3. Insert the screw into the pilot hole. Turn the screw clockwise until it is snug. Do not overtighten the screw, as this could damage the cabinet door.
  4. Attach the handle to the screw. Line up the handle with the screw and push it on. The handle should fit snugly against the cabinet door.
  5. Tighten the screw. Use a screwdriver to tighten the screw. Again, do not overtighten the screw.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 for the remaining handles.

Tips:

  • If you are installing handles on a new cabinet, it is best to wait until the cabinet is fully assembled before installing the handles. This will help to ensure that the handles are installed correctly.
  • If you are installing handles on an existing cabinet, be sure to remove the old handles before installing the new ones.
  • When choosing a drill bit, it is important to select one that is the same diameter as the screw that came with the handles. If the drill bit is too small, the screw will not be able to hold the handle securely. If the drill bit is too large, the screw will be loose and the handle may wobble.
  • Be sure to drill the pilot hole straight. If the pilot hole is not drilled straight, the screw may not be able to hold the handle securely.
  • Do not overtighten the screws. Overtightening the screws can damage the cabinet door.
