How To Build A Recessed Medicine Cabinet With Mirror
Recessed medicine cabinets are a great way to add storage to your bathroom without taking up too much space. They're also a great way to hide away your toiletries and keep your bathroom looking neat and tidy.
Building a recessed medicine cabinet with mirror is a relatively simple project that can be completed in a few hours. Here's how to do it:
Materials:
- 1/2-inch plywood
- 1/4-inch plywood
- 2-inch wood screws
- 1-1/4-inch wood screws
- Mirror
- Wood filler
- Sandpaper
- Paint or stain
Tools:
- Circular saw
- Drill
- Countersink
- Clamps
- Level
- Sanding block
- Paintbrush or roller
Instructions:
- Cut the plywood to size for the cabinet box. The box should be the same width and height as the mirror, and the depth should be at least 4 inches.
- Assemble the cabinet box by screwing the sides and back to the bottom. Countersink the screws so that they are flush with the surface of the wood.
- Cut the 1/4-inch plywood to size for the front of the cabinet. The front should be the same width and height as the mirror, and it should overlap the edges of the cabinet box by 1/2 inch.
- Attach the front to the cabinet box by screwing it in place. Countersink the screws so that they are flush with the surface of the wood.
- Attach the mirror to the front of the cabinet. The mirror should be centered on the front of the cabinet, and it should be flush with the edges of the 1/4-inch plywood.
- Fill the screw holes and any other imperfections in the wood with wood filler. Sand the wood filler smooth when it is dry.
- Paint or stain the cabinet to match your bathroom decor.
Tips:
- If you are not comfortable using a circular saw, you can have the plywood cut to size at your local home improvement store.
- Be sure to countersink the screws so that they are flush with the surface of the wood. This will help to prevent the screws from snagging on clothing or towels.
- If you are installing the cabinet in a wall with tile, be sure to use a drill bit that is designed for tile.
- Once the cabinet is installed, be sure to caulk around the edges to seal it from moisture.
